Breakfast on wheels: a roadside egg business finds its feet

August 7, 2025

Foundation team members visiting a roadside egg vendor and his food cart.

Every morning, commuters, students and workers pass along this busy road. For the young entrepreneur behind this food cart, each of them is a potential customer, and a cart of freshly prepared eggs and snacks has become a way to earn a living with dignity.

Through our enterprise and livelihoods work, the Cistern of Hope Foundation supports young people and women to start and grow small businesses that can outlast any single season of support. That means encouragement and mentorship as much as materials: thinking through costs, customers, pricing and how to keep going on slow days.

Our team visits the businesses we support to see how they are doing, listen to the challenges and celebrate the progress. A small cart on a roadside may look modest, but it can mean food on the table, school fees paid and the confidence that comes from building something of your own.

Would you like to help another young person start a business? Partner with us, and together we can turn small beginnings into lasting livelihoods.

The challenge

Young people in our community often have the energy and ideas to earn a living but lack the start-up support, guidance and encouragement to begin.

What we did

The Foundation walks alongside young entrepreneurs with support, mentorship and follow-up visits as they establish small businesses.

The change

A roadside food business serving customers every day, and a young entrepreneur working toward self-reliance.

Let's build lasting change together.

Partner with Cistern of Hope Foundation to strengthen pathways for children, young people, women, families and communities.
